Free Wood Debris Pick Up

A free FireSmart™ program for Union Bay and Fanny Bay

The Comox Valley FireSmart Collaborative is offering free wood debris pick-up from Monday, November 30, to Friday, December 4, 2026.

This program is funded through the Community Resiliency Investment Grant and supports FireSmart practices by removing combustible debris from residential properties.  All wood debris will be chipped, composted, and transformed into SkyRocket compost.

How to participate
Place eligible wood debris at the end of your
driveway by 8 am on Monday, November 30.
Your debris may be collected at any time between Monday, November 30, and Friday, December 4. Please leave your pile out for the full week until it has been collected.

Do not place materials on public roads.

What we will collect
Tree branches and trimmings less than 6 inches (15 cm)
in diameter and 10 feet (3 m) long.
Place branch butt ends facing the road to support efficient chipping. Keep piles reasonable in size; this service is not for land clearing.

What we cannot collect

  • Rocks, metal, roots, or soil
  • Treated lumber
  • Leaves or grass clippings
  • Invasive plants, including
Scotch broom, English holly, giant hogweed, or knotweed

Piles that do not meet these requirements, or that are placed
out after 8 am on Monday, November 30, may not be picked up.
