FANNY BAY WATERWORKS
WATER CONSERVATION POLICY
TO THE RESIDENTS AND USERS OF FANNY BAY WATERWORKS
Our aquifer is a limited resource that we ALL must share. The forecast is for an even hotter summer and there are already forest fires burning in BC, although not on the Island. This, of course means that our water supply will dwindle as the summer progresses, and it is critical that everyone conserve May 1 through September 30. The Waterworks’ mandate is simply to supply potable drinking water for use inside our homes. The bottom line is that during the summer months we all need to conserve water and most residents are to be commended for their efforts last year as our wells were never under stress.
The conservation policy is simple. We recommend that outside watering only be done every second day. Even house numbers may water on even numbered days and odd numbers on odd numbered days, for a maximum of two (2) hours per day.
When watering gardens please use a water restriction nozzle, a timed drip watering system, or soaker hose watering method. Please avoid using sprinklers and water spraying, as these tend to waste a lot of water. Please avoid using water for watering lawns, washing vehicles, filling pools, and other non-essential uses.
The fire danger sign on the highway is a good indicator for increased effort in conserving water. Another indicator is Cougar Creek which charges our aquifer. When it is low our aquifer is low.
EVERYONE’S HELP IS REQUIRED. PLEASE CONSERVE WATER.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in conserving our water! Should we encounter extreme weather or other difficulties we will let you know.
